Applications will be initially reviewed March 1st 2005. March 10th 2005 is the last date of receipt for those who wish to be considered for financial support. Should the number of applications exceed the available number of places (55) then the participants will be selected based on a balance of disciplinary lines, current educational level, geographical distribution of their current institution, and the applicant's statement of why they are interested in the 2005 Whistler Workshop.
Students are advised to not purchase airfares or reserve hotel accomodation until receiving confirmation of their enrollment in early March. West Jet has provided a travel discount (10% off their regular fares); details will be sent to successful applicants.
Registration fee : $200
Transport to Vancouver : Variable. Discount airfares on West Jet
One night hotel in Vancouver : about $60 (assuming double occupancy)
Six nights in Whister Coast : $300 (assuming double occupancy)
Dinners in Whistler : Variable. Expect $15-35/night for six nights
Students requesting financial aid will be sent information on how to apply and their applications will be flagged. ONLY those students who are then successful in obtaining one of the small number of subsidies will be admitted to the Whister Workshop. [That is, if you apply for aid and are unsuccessful it is unlikely that there will be any spaces left in the workshop; thus only students who cannot attend without aid should apply].
Note that if you apply for financial aid, your registration form must still be accompanied by your registration cheque; if you are not selected for financial aid your cheque will be returned un-cashed.
There will be a few time blocks during the June 6-11 week for time off in order to take advantage of the natural beauty of Whistler, hopefully with new friends made during the course of the week!
